A Pleasant Surprise

A friend of mine has been working on this surf movie with a friend of his for almost three years in the making. This film documents a world of contrast as daily changes in weather and waves prove to be all part of a larger picture; thumping beach breaks, cold water, and quick tropical storms are just a fraction of what you will find. Brought to you in Super 16mm, A Pleasant Surprise allows for the full beauty of the Northeast region of the states and its surfers to be realized.

mysterious letters

2 people living in Ireland, Michael and Lenka, decided to send a personal, handwritten letter to each of the 467 households in the small Irish village of Cushendall this past April (2009).  They are adorable! What a feat. Check out their site here

Have a peaceful 4th!

First off, Happy Fourth of July!
Coming July 7th, Laurence Miller Gallery in New York City will join the nationwide celebration of Woodstock's 40th birthday with an exhibition of photographs by Burk Uzzle, one of my favorite photographers, who became LIFE's youngest contract photographer at the ripe age of 23.  Uzzle will have about 25 vintage, modern, and color prints from the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival.  He is the foremost photographer of arguably the most peaceful assemblage of over 300,000 persons ever.
He shot the festival from the vantage point of a participant.  The photographs are beautiful and create images which focus on the details of living, existence and enjoyment of this sea of humanity which was as dense as a carpet of wildflowers in a meadow, rather than simple documentation -- it truly captures the spirit of the festival, and ultimately, an era.  In an America rife with racial tension and at war in Vietnam, Woodstock defined the culture of a generation, a message of hope for a brighter and more peaceful future.
On that note, have peaceful and happy fourth of July everyone.
xx

So, I saw this new music video from a band called 'We Have Band' and at first I was like, "this is creepy and kinda weird..." And then once it was over, I was like, "that was actually a pretty awesome video" ...think Blue Man Group goes Indie...

farm celebration

I came accross this lovely photoshoot from Zack and Lauren's gorgeous farm wedding in Georgia on photographers Whitney and Jesse's website.  I, for one, am in love with farms and dresses and old Ford trucks, so it was especially gorgeous to me...but I think the photographers (known as "Our Labor of Love") did a really great job in capturing the event -- the fairy-light canopy, the cute blue bridesmaid dresses and their cowboy boots, the sparkler send-off, and all the happiness that filled the farm! Click here and check out all the beautiful photographs plus more from the "Our Labor of Love" photog duo who capture the intimate moments of peoples lives with unique composition and creativity!!

spaceship or surfboard?

check this out....

Rails are soft up front along with a gentle hull-shaped bottom contour that allows for easy paddling and nose-riding, getting the board quickly up to speed. But the wider rear of the board has sharper rails and a deep double-concave, which along with the rudder-like tail creates a unique shortboard-like turning radius and feel.

Based in Manly Beach, Australia, Global Surf Industries is the largest surfboard distributor in the world with 11 distinct brands, aimed mostly at recreational surfers. GSI’s shapers have included Greg Webber, Steve Walden, Bob McTavish, and Al Merrick. With the Meyerhoffer longboard now in its quiver, however, it has for the first time added a unique and innovative design that could well prove to be a game-changer in longboarding.

So...Don’t be surprised if these boards appear like UFOs in a line-up or contest near you, ripping where others have plodded before them. Stand-up-paddle surfers beware: in the near future, that glowing and flowing longboard surfing circles around you and your awkward balancing act may just be a Modern Meyerhoffer.

Board sizes will range from 7’6”–9’6” and will come with 6” or 8” center fins along with FCS side fins, depending on the length of the board. Look for demos and boards to be made available in Northern California in the coming weeks at the following shops: Wise in San Francisco, Sonlight in Pacifica, and Freeline in Santa Cruz. WooHoo!!!!!
